Access
Work Hours
Laboratory access is dependent upon training and experience, and is typically restricted to standard working hours: 9 AM - 5 PM, Mon - Fri. The Laboratory Manager is onsite during these hours to provide procedural assistance, training, and maintenance. Extended working hours (typically 7 AM - 8 PM, Mon - Sun), are granted to users who have accrued at least 8 hours with the specific equipment and demonstrated during training that they will follow laboratory rules and complete procedures responsibly and safely. These extended working hours may not be available for all procedures, and may vary slightly by procedure.
New User Request Form
New users must fill out the SPL New User Request Form to request access to the equipment and chemicals in the Sample Prep Lab. The request form is designed to record basic user information and statistics, as well as give the Laboratory Manager further information regarding the prospective user's research aims. Some STARS safety trainings and document review are required prior to completing the form. See the Training tab for more information. Upon completion of the form, the Laboratory Manager will reach out to the user to set up in-person training. Please reach out to the Laboratory Manager for quick questions regarding SPL access if unsure if the SPL is the right fit for your needs.
Lab Room ID Card Access
Following completion of required training, users can request ID card access (where applicable) for the lab room(s) by filling out the online Lab Room ID Card Access Request Form. Requests will be denied if submitted prior to training completion with the Laboratory Manager. Please note, while trained users may be granted laboratory after hours access for approved procedures, this does not guarantee that Facilities will grant building after hours access. Undergraduate students are typically not granted building after hours access.
Equipment Reservations
The Sample Prep Lab uses the online Agilent iLab scheduling system for laboratory equipment reservations. Laboratory users will need to complete free registration, ensuring that they are added to their Principal Investigator's lab group, and email the Laboratory Manger after they have done so. Following registration and the training outlined above, the laboratory user will be given reservation access for the equipment they have been trained on. For help with registration, please see the iLab Help Guide.
Communications
Primary communication is handled through an email distribution list. Laboratory users will be added to this list once laboratory access is granted for updates on maintenance, shutdowns, etc.
